20131207 | TEDxUlaanbaatarWomen

Hello people of the internet,

Yesterday, December the 7th of 2013, the TEDxUlaanbaatarWomen event happened at the Black Box Theatre Lab, and I went to it. This year's event theme was Young & Undiscovered and it was divided into 4 sections, in which of three 9 women gave talks that was inspirational. I am not here to say that I was move off of my feet that day, but most of them really touched me.

Kudos to all the volunteers that has put their time and effort into organizing this independently organized TED event and made it a success.

For those who want to get photos taken of them by me, can click this link to access my Flickr set of that day. Understand that I am not a professional photographer and they might be blurry (LOL).

CATCHING FIRE by Francis Lawrence | Watch Log

Hello people of the internet,

As you may have known already, Lions Gate Entertainment has released its next installment in The Hunger Games franchise - The Hunger Games: Cathing Fire last Friday. It has made over $160 million in the box office just during the opening weekend, which was slightly below the estimates. Don't worry though. Lions Gate Entertainment has more money to make off of this franchise with Mockingjay Part One and Two coming respectively in November 2014 and 2015.

In the meantime, me and my friend Indra (who had introduced me to the book trilogy if I am not mistaken) went to watch the Catching Fire on Sunday, during the opening weekend. Here is what we thought about the film.

P.S. Mild spoilers.

Blind Pilot - 3 Rounds and a Sound | Song of the Day

Hello people of the internet,

This time I am featuring a song that I've heard first time yesterday via my friend's flatmate. Contrary to my obsessive behaviour, I know nothing about the band Blind Pilot and I am okay with it. The first version I heard of this song was a studio version of it, which is the last track on their album with a same title. (I recommend you to listen to that version as well)

I hereby include the Blind Pilot's official Soundcloud embedded song and if you happen to like it, you can browse them by their username on SC. I hope you'll feel the same sensation from this song as I did.

'Free to Choose' the 'Mystery of Capital'

Hello people of the internet,

I just wanted to share with you an observation I made for almost 4 years. In my freshman year of college, my Economics professor gave us assignment to write up review essays for two books that we were supposed to have read during the semester: Milton Friedman's Free to Choose: A Personal Statement and Hernando de Soto's The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else. When I finished up the books and wrote my reviews, I shared them online and also embedded them on this blog (see the blog post here). That was December 5, 2009.

You gotta keep in mind that I was just a freshman and that post is my second most read post on this blog with 2018 hits as of now. This week it became the most read post. The hits soar especially around this time of the year. My guess is that the student who got the same assignment are searching for an outside review for their own and stumble upon mine. Hence the hits.So I just Googled the book titles online and guess what kind of results came up. The Scribd document link for Free to Choose was the first result (2,733 hits) and  the link for The Mystery of Capital was the 4th result (2,358 hits). No wonder the hits are coming along.

I hope my reviews were helpful,

Thor: The Dark World | Watch Log

Hello people of the internet,

For those who are Marvel movie followers, whether you're a hard-core Marvel comics fan who want to expand your love by going to the movies or a newly engaged fans, like me, who are enjoying the movies because of the amazing animations and the impeccable cast choice, you are in for a treat this time. I understand the trailer wasn't as engaging (watch the trailer here), but seems like the studio intentionally makes them to be a bit boring so that when you are actually in the theatre, you'll be blown away. Thor: The Dark World did that exactly for me.

Thor was pretty Thor-ish and oh my god, Loki you are incredible. I'll stop the commentary now so that I won't spoil you anything, and trust me you don't want it spoiled. Come to think of it, it's interesting that British actors make such a good villain; and some villains just win your heart over the hero (ex. Loki, Joker and the Darth Vader).

This film made $86 million on its opening weekend, if I a not mistaken. And that's for a good reason. Here is my reaction just after watching this film. Disclaimer: to much chattering, too much emotion and loss of word.

Expand this post to see the trailer.

5 PM

Hello people of the internet,

I know that the standard work off time is 6 pm, but if you have ever walked close to kindergartens (not so close) around 5 pm, you'll see some pretty cute sights. Parents or siblings picking up their kids from their daily "work" and they following them. Such a cute sight, isn't it?

I spotted this kid the other day walking as far away from his father (I think) as possible, so that he can prove that he can walk on his own. I swear he couldn't. But I can't help but crack up seeing this little "Russian-Winnie-the-pooh" walking around. Aaaaawwwww.

I'll see you soon.

20131006 Life Update | Video Log

Hello people of the internet,

It's been over a month since my last blog post and over two months since my last video log. Wow, I can't believe how fast this summer has passed. It's officially Autumn - and I am loving it (partially because of the dark lipsticks you get to wear in this season and not get as much scrutiny as you would have during Spring).

Here is a little update on how I've been doing and plus, I just wanted to talk to my camera and do stuff that I am at least a bit familiar.

Kush & Oyuka - Say It Now | Song of the Day

Hello people of the internet,

I am sure you have been loving the Say It Now single by illustrious in the extreme Kush & Oyuka quite a lot. But let me tell you, it has been pretty much playing on my iTunes all throughout yesterday and today. I have it on like repeat when I am working and doing stuff around my (my family's) apartment.

Just wanted to let the love out there for the deserving "couple" who made us this alluring song.

Volum' Express The Rocket | Maybelline Mascara

2013081015-18-250740 2013081015-21-580741

Hello people of the internet,

This is one of the rare posts that I come out and take about girly stuff like make-up, and this one is about a mascara that I picked up yesterday - Volum' Express The Rocket from Maybelline. I remember Estee from essiebutton talking about hating it and then loving it. So when I was waiting for a friend in the department store I saw it in the display, I wanted to try it out myself.

I can tell you upfront the wand doesn't look that impressive. It's pretty simple - which I like. The other drugstore mascaras like the Falsies and the Telescopics make my eyelashes look pretty good - like a false eyelashes. But the Rocket does look pretty natural, yet making me look like I actually have lashes. LOL. It volumises your lashes instantly with a wand that has a microsonic bristles. It holds curls well and doesn't make my eyes look like a raccoon and it doesn't clump. And the colour is great - Blackest Black.

If you're interested, it's 15,000 tugriks at the State Department Store, which is about 10 USD - not a bad deal.

P.S. The lipstick is Revlon Matte 010 Wine Not.

First weekend of August 2013

Hello people of the internet,

It's Monday, so it's time to brag about what you did over the weekend if you have done something quite nice or something you don't normally do. Here is how my weekend went.

Saturday started with a phone call from my classmate in high school asking me if I would go on an outing with the mates. Obviously I'd take every chance to get out of the town. Six of us went to the camp place of one of us. (Yes, apparently only 6 of us were able to go, but it was great) Though we were planning to come back late in the evening, we spent the night there and had a lovely breakfast as well.

P.S. I cut my hair by about 25 cm and I'm loving it.

20130729 First day on air (visually)

Facebook photo by +Gerel Orgil
Hello people of the internet,

I have been doing a real-time translation of First-Up with Susan Li every weekday since April 1st (yeah, yeah, the April Fool's day - it felt like a joke to me too). So my voice has been on air for almost 4 months. But today, I appeared on air during a rundown for the first time in my life. It was twice for about a minute and a half each time. I won't hide the fact that I was pretty nervous/excited about the arrangement.

Until next time,

WORLD WAR Z by Marc Forster | Watch Log

Hello people of the internet,

So the other day I went to see the zombie film with Brad Pitt - WORLD WAR Z. I haven't read the books or read/watched any review on the film when I went to the threatre to watch it. It was pretty cool. Here is what I thought of the film.

Until next time,

P.S. Going to a zombie film alone is not that funny when you want to laugh at the zombies alone. Cards

Hello people of the internet,

There is this cute site where you can order pre-designed or custom designed business cards with quality-dripping-matte and glossy finish. is a UK based company that offers these cute cards. You can order full sized business cards or mini-cards of your will. They are offering 30% sell on their product if you want to order some to promote your business or interest. I am sure you'll like it. Just go check out the site.

In my case, I ordered a batch of 100 mini-cards and a white, plastic mini-card holder, which can hold up to 12 cards at a time, from I filled up my case with a bunch of cards and can not wait to carry them with me (what a nerd).

Until next time,

P.S. The packaging is pretty cool, isn't it?

20130720 A Hike to Tsetsee Gun | Video Log

Hello people of the internet,

I went on a hike with my friends to the Tsetsee Gun on Saturday for a change. It was a good hike and doing it every other day would be great.

Here is a video to commemorate that day. Also I found my company to go to Play Time 2013. The hiking group is going to the festival together.

SPUTNIK SWEETHEART by Haruki Murakami | Read Log

Photo by of the book cover in discussion on my Kindle.
The green scarf makes the pic a bit gloomy, sorry about that.
Hello people of the internet,

I am slowly easing back into making videos, what would be better than doing a rant on the latest Haruki Murakami novel - Sputnik Sweetheart.

Anu Harchu

Author: Haruki Murakami
Title: Sputnik Sweetheart
Description: From Publishers Weekly
Murakami's seventh novel to be translated into English is a short, enigmatic chronicle of unrequited desire involving three acquaintances the narrator, a 24-year-old Tokyo schoolteacher; his friend Sumire, an erratic, dreamy writer who idolizes Jack Kerouac; and Miu, a beautiful married businesswoman with a secret in her past so harrowing it has turned her hair snowy white. When Sumire abandons her writing for life as an assistant to Miu and later disappears while the two are vacationing on a Greek island, the narrator/teacher travels across the world to help find her. Once on the island, he discovers Sumire has written two stories: one explaining the extent of her longing for Miu; the second revealing the secret from Miu's past that bleached her hair and prevents her from getting close to anyone.
All of the characters suffer from bouts of existential despair, and in the end, back in Tokyo, having lost both of his potential saviors and deciding to end a loveless affair with a student's mother, the narrator laments his loneliness. Though the story is almost stark in its simplicity more like Murakami's romantic Norwegian Wood than his surreal Wind-Up Bird Chronicles the careful intimacy of the protagonists' conversation and their tightly controlled passion for each other make this slim book worthwhile. Like a Zen koan, Murakami's tale of the search for human connection asks only questions, offers no answers and must be meditated upon to provide meaning. (Apr. 30)Forecast: Long the secret delight of connoisseurs, Murakami has been steadily and quietly acquiring a wider readership. His latest offering breaks no new ground but is packaged in a striking manner and should attract a few newcomers.

PlayTime Music Festival 2013 | Upcoming Event

PlayTime Music Festival 2012 Day One
August 4th
with Nomin Enkh-Amgalan
Hello people of the internet,

You might as well have already heard of it, but I am gonna say it anyway. This year's PlayTime Music Festival is in 2 weeks. The website is up, the line-up is up, the location is set (well, we all knew where is was going to be) and the tickets will start to be sold at HiFi stores tomorrow.

They have 2-day-single-ticket, 2nd-day-single-ticket and packet tickets for 5 or 10 this year. (If I am not mistaken, they only had packet ticket for 5 last year) And I hear they are going to offer tickets with special deals soon. The prices doubled since last year, but I don't think many people are complaining about it.

So, are we going?

Until next time,

20130709 Like A Sir

The decal sticker is from eBay.
You can purchase it here.
Hello people of the internet,

A decal sticker that I was waiting finally came and my laptop looks like a Sir now. How cool/cute is that? Just like my red laptop had a "Nirvana" sticker, my silver laptop has a "Moustache" decal.

I am pretty sure that there might not be a lot of responses to this question, but I am gonna ask it anyway. What my next video should be? a) Vlog for the Naadam festival or b) Lipsticks video (beauty video - pretty new thing, I am sure there won't be many).

Until next time,
Anu Harchu

20130707 Gerel's Birthday

Hello people of the internet,

It's July 7th, 2013 and it's my dear sis Gerel's birthday. So, Happy Birthday, Gerel!!! I wish you all the best and thank you for inviting me to your birthday party.

I would say it's the perfect temperature for me today. Cloudy with a chance of rain and +20 degrees high, I get to layer clothes and not get sweaty. I can read all day at a coffee shop, because it's Sunday. Have a great Sunday and I'll see you with a video next time.

Until then,
Anu Harchu

20130701 The Reporter's Notebook

It's not a registered reporter's
notebook. If you want one of these,
I got it at the Morning Glory
stationery opposite SDS.
Hello people of the internet,

I would assume that there is no need to mention that how fast the first half of the year passed by. It was just February and now it's July. According to the traditional saying, the Autumn is not just 10 days away, which is though my favourite season, but it feels like we're (I've) missed the Summer. The real summer. Anyway, no need to complain about that.

Funny story, I used a full size reporters notebook at my work for everyday note-taking, until it just out of nowhere disappeared. For the life of me, I couldn't find it at work, at home, at anywhere. Which is quite sad. I loved that notebook. Oh well, now it had be replaced. So, today I bought a smaller, lemon yellow, top-spiraled notebook from Morning Glory. Say hello to my everyday partner from now on, Lemon, and her slim friend, the Pen.

Until next time,
Anu Harchu

P.S. I am quite psyched that I would be able to meet my two oldest friends who happened to be born on a same day. Isn't that interesting?

20130630 End of the First Half of the Year

Hello people of the internet,

I'll let you in on a little secret. By now some people are aware that I have a little bit of OCD in formation. I love it when the 1st of any month is on Monday and you can know what day of the week it is by dividing the date in 7 and using what's left. Gotta love those. So, because of the last day of June is on Sunday, the fore-mentioned peculiarity is happening next month. Kinda cool! (no, it isn't, Anu. No, it isn't)

My first half of the 2013 ended on a cool day and a lot has happened for the last 6 months, of whose experience I would never forget. How was your last 6 months? And please let me know if you have an OCD, too.

Thank you for going through this with me,
Anu Harchu

I voted, have you?

Hello people of the internet,

If you think that I am writing this post to endorse anyone, you're wrong. So please continue reading.

Considering that the last couple of days in Ulaanbaatar was gloomy weather-wise, today was a sunny one. Though I personally like cool and gloomy weather, I hope the sun shining has encouraged you to get up from your bed early on this holiday and cast your vote for the Presidential candidate you prefer. If you haven't found time to get to your local voting booth yet, please go there before the casting hour is over.

Voting is not just having a day off and lounging around without any refreshments, because it's forbidden on the election day. It's about owning your rights and serving your responsibility at the same time. It's not only your right that you get to choose whoever that will represent you in the next 4 years in the international community, it's about you contributing to the democracy that is our society now and making the system work as efficiently as possible. It's better that you voted rather than bitching around later for that the one you wanted didn't get elector or so.

I understand that this year's candidates aren't as popular among the people as you would like (believe me, I've heard many people complaining that they are not just sharp enough), but that's not the reason to back down. You're a citizen of a democratic society, act like it (if you haven't already of course).

Until next time,
Anu Harchu

Freedom or Fear

Hello people of the internet,

I would love to say that a lot has changed since my last log, but I don't really think a lot has changed. The variable that has changed was that I graduated from college. I am still working full-time at the same place. Since I didn't have much class in the last semester, it has been just like as if I had already graduated from the beginning of this year.

I should feel liberated or lucky that I am a college-graduate now who has all the opportunities in life to take and so on. But I don't feel that way. I am more feared or numb, probably explains why I am usually categorized as less progressive. (boy, those sentences couldn't have more "I"s in them)

Hope that I am not alone and there are people out there who are as lost as I am at the moment, but also I hope that all of us will find our ways in the near future. May the odds be ever in your favour.

Love always,

Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers | Song of the Day

The evening that I discovered the song (more like the video) via Indra was a magical one for many reasons. The one thing should be said is that this song was played nonstop for I-don't-know-how-many-times that evening.

Is the grooviness of 60's (or 70's I am not sure) is coming back in a full force or am I just an old fashioned person? And don't you think God is being unfair for Pharrell for his aging?

School is over

Hello everyone,

The state exams for finishing college is over. I gave my professional exam yesterday and gave my English exam on Monday. I've already received my results and pretty happy with it. All I have to do now is to wait until the graduation ceremony.

I might no longer have to go for school. (I hope I will though) Weird feeling, isn't it? How have you been doing for the last week? My last week started with One Way and ended with The Lemons.

Your Lips But Better | Make-Up

Revlon Lipbutter 001 Pink Truffle
I am one of the latest to join the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter phase among other cosmonerds. But I'd just got my very first one - 001 Pink Truffle. It's a perfect shade of Your Lips But Better trend for me. It's an orange-brown neutral shade that has a light sheen to it. The colour doesn't go that opaque.

The pouch with cute inner lining is from Claire Fountaine
Just like it is advertised, the Revlon lip butter is the mid-ground between a lip stick and a lip balm. It almost as moisturizing as a balm, but it does not have as good staying power as a lipstick. Don't forget to consider that I wear matte lipstick, and they have great stay power, so the comparison might not be as powerful.

I assure you the red lip phase is not over.

20130521 Let's Make a Deal

Rosewood Coffee House
Okay, here is the deal, or rather a declaration. Deal would involve two parties being obligated to do "stuff". So, here is my declaration. Starting from today, I decided to post at least one post on my blog updating my life about anything. They might not be very lengthy and content-filled posts (as if they were in the first place, lol). But nonetheless, a life blog is like a public diary, more or less.

So deal?

Update: every other day might be better.

20130509 Thursday

C&C The Coffeehouse & Cupcakes
For the last semester I only had two periods on Thursdays and one period on Friday. That's it as far as classes go. Because I had so much time on my hand and let's face it I am not gonna cram for exams, I looked for other distractions. Most likely, that's why I got a job. Good thing that I am enjoying it and learning lots of things from people who have more expertise.

Today was a special day; next will be a special week too. Because all my classes are done now and we're doing wrap up lectures on every class that I took through-out my four years of university next week. Too bad that I am gonna miss most of those for I have full-time job. I am not complaining though, just a little sorry that I am gonna miss probably my last chance of sitting in the lectures with my classmates and my professors. It's been a good 4 years and I hope I will still feel the same in a month, in a year, in a decade.

Life after uni, here I come! (not really, I gave my finals for the current classes but I still have the graduation examinations coming up later this month, wish me a luck)

Iron Man 3 | Watch Log

Where do I begin? I watched Iron Man 3 finally because the trailer kept playing in my head and I couldn't wait until the weekends to watch it; and I loved it. Let's leave it at that.

Here is me chatting crazy hyper about the film just after I watched it in a theatre. The excited state itself is a legitimate reason for the uber-length of this video.

Marina and the Diamonds - Homewrecker (acoustic) | Song of the Day

Marina and the Diamonds is a Welsh singer and song-writer who has made her image of 60's look and the cute heart on her left cheek (I am not sure if it's a tattoo or not). My whole obsession started from her single How to be a Heartbreaker and now I find myself loving the acoustic versions of her songs. This weekend was a total Homewrecker days. Another chilling song of hers would be Starring Role.

I hope that you find her as appealing and inspiring as I find her.

New Boyfriend

Tell me you were at least a little bit excited when you read the title of this post even though you knew it can't be. Anyway, I'll proceed as if you did.

My trusty old Acer had been showing signs of dying on me for a while now and it did. So I decided it was time that I get another upgraded one since I had my old one for a while now. My old Acer with its Nirvana sticker is still sitting on my desk but it won't cooperate with me in typing and video editing anymore.

With this new machine, I feel more inspired to do more work, especially writing either it's for my blog or for my own novella. Plus, the additional RAM would help me edit my videos in a more advanced editing programmes - you'll know when I start uploading better edited videos. I've had this baby since April 27th; and I shall say that configuring new piece of technology to my own use from the scratch feels soooo good (such a nerd inside of me).

I hope you are all doing well.

THE HOST by Andrew Niccol | Watch Log

I am not gonna lie. I watched The Host because I read the book by Stephenie Meyer. What surprises me most is that the production company made a film adaptation of a book which is a part of a series that has only the first book finished so far. Right? Right? Someone please agree with me?

Anyway, the most lovable character and performance was that of Diana Kruger as the antagonist. I think she delivered a beautiful performance of a shaking Seeker.
While Saoirse Ronan delivered a convincing performance as an alien entity, the male characters didn't have a chance to stand out. Somehow the film had such a small number of characters that you can actually follow every one's line. But there wasn't much given at that front.

I shall say I was surprised to see Emily Browning in this film. She is such a shorty in this one, isn't she? Her acting was stiff I would say. (what was up with her face? Did she get a botox or was it always been like this?) Still I really much liked her presence.

The Host isn't really recommended for those who haven't read the book for it is pretty boring story line as far as the film goes; and if I haven't read the book, I would have questioned my ability to choose an interesting film. (Read my 3 year old book review by clicking here)

I hope it helped, and I hope I'll see you soon on a video for my laptop is not cooperating with me on editing video files.

The Infernal Devices | Read Log

I don't think I have did any review on Cassandra Clare's latest trilogy - The Infernal Devices yet, if I did, consider me too lazy to go back and check on it. Cassandra Clare's previous trilogy The Mortal Instruments consisting of City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass being one of the reasons I started reading modern fiction quite a lot back in high school. (oh, she actually extended trilogy to be 6-book one, the last one is about to come out ending the series)

The Infernal Devices trilogy consisting of Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess was set in the same world as her previous trilogy/series, but set in almost 2 centuries ahead in Victorian Era London. All three books were written in third-person perspective making it a little bit separated from the characters, but I am not complaining. I won't type anything that would give away anything, but the ending was probably the most suitable ending for romance seekers.

After reading quite a few Murakami novels, Cassandra Clare's young adult books aren't the same for I looooved The Mortal Instruments at first or I have just grown up. Which ever it is, I don't really recommend reading the whole trilogy unless you have read the previous series and willing to kill some time with pursuing the same author. Although it is described as a stand-alone trilogy, I don't think it gives full information that should be given to somebody who is not familiar with the Shadowhunter world. Otherwise, don't really go for it. It was an OK trilogy - earning 2 stars on Goodreads for me.

20130420 Power of Love

I had swung by the Power of Love exhibition by artist and designer Ch. Sendem at the Fine Arts Museum of Zanabazar yesterday, which incorporated her drawing works on cashmere and silk.

All the exhibits were presented in a frame, flattened out. But all of them can be worn as a scarf - a very chic scarf at that. Here are some photos taken during it.
